Join COPROT, not just as a volunteer but as a catalyst for positive change in the delicate balance between humanity and nature. This is not just a conservation project; it’s a life-changing experience for those ready to make a real impact.
Priscilla, our volunteer coordinator, recently embarked on a journey to the Osa Peninsula to immerse herself in the conservation project. Returning, she brought back not only enchanting memories but also a wealth of newfound experiences to share.
What did you do during the day?
Every day was a unique adventure, with activities evolving based on the week’s schedule. The central component was, of course, the turtle patrols – a daily commitment that allowed us to actively contribute to the conservation efforts. Beyond patrolling, our days were filled with diverse tasks, from beach clean-ups and plastic upcycling to engaging in community workshops, English lessons, and general camp maintenance. The variety of activities kept the experience dynamic and enriched.
What was most impressive?
Witnessing the turtle hatchery was a truly awe-inspiring moment. The entire process, from observing how the turtles recognized the beach and sand to their initial journey into the water, became a profound part of their learning process. The sheer resilience and survival instincts displayed by these hatchlings left an indelible mark. It wasn’t just about conservation; it was about witnessing the delicate dance of nature and life, making the entire journey with COPROT unforgettable.
How difficult was it to get there?
To reach the project, I embarked on a journey from San Jose that added a sense of adventure to the entire experience. Starting from the center of town, I hopped on a bus that meandered through the picturesque landscapes for approximately 8 hours. The bus made a couple of strategic stops along the way, allowing us to grab snacks and take restroom breaks. While the journey was long, the anticipation of what awaited me in the Osa Peninsula made it all worthwhile.
How were you received, and how was the accommodation?
From the moment I arrived, the warmth of welcome enveloped me. The sense of community was palpable, and I immediately felt supported as I acclimated to the project’s dynamics. The accommodation, though basic, resonated with the simplicity and authenticity that characterized the entire experience. It became a home in the heart of nature, fostering a genuine connection with the surroundings.
