Baños is widely considered to be the adventure capital of South America. Nested in the mountain skirts of Tungurahua volcano, and amongst beautiful waterfalls, this town is famous for its extensive offer of activities. You can start your day rapid water rafting in Pastaza River, and then in the afternoon come down from the adrenaline high by enjoying a bath in natural hot springs with a view that will make you feel as in cloud nine: you might literally be in a cloud!

Mindo is famous for its variety of endemic bird species, many unique to the area, like the cock of the rock, and for its beautiful butterfly garden. But not only that; Mindo is also a spot for adventure seekers. Hiking, waterfall climbing, and tubing are also in the menu! Rent a bike and drive up through the cloudforest to a waterfall where you can swim in the river to freshen up from the drive. Pailón del Diablo Waterfall

Pailón de Diablo or Devil’s Cauldron is one of the biggest waterfalls in Ecuador that will put you face to face with one of nature’s most powerful wonders;  the strength with which the water hits the rocks at the bottom, makes it seem as if it was boiling, hence its name, will make you feel its energy. Make sure you bring a rainjacket, water spalsh will be plenty! 

The Swing at the end of the world

Atop a mountain, looking over to Tungurahua volcano, we find the Tree House, shich harbors one of Baños’ greatest atraction. Swing over a cliff where you will feel at the end of the world and on top of it at the same time.

Best times to
visit baños

Any time of the year is a good time to visit the cloudforests of Ecuador! Thanks to their privileged location and unique ecosystems, they offer a year round temperature taht oscillates between 80 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 30 Celsius) with the rainy season lasting from January to April.

HOW TO GET THERE

To get to Baños de Agua Santa by bus from Quito, you will need to got to the Quitumbe Bus Terminal, located south of the city. There, you will find buses which leave every 15 minutes. The drive takes around 4 hours. There are also some private services that can take you there, be sure to ask us about them.

To get to Mindo by bus from Quito, you will need to go to the Ofelia Bus terminal, north of the city and take a bus directly to Mindo. The buses leave every hour, and the drive takes 3 hours approximately.

GETTING AROUND

For getting around the city, visitors can use public transportation such as buses. However these methods of transport are only available from 6 am to 8 pm. There are also taxi cabs that you can take and they’re not expensive. Also just walking is a fun way of seeing both towns. They’re not too big and they’re safe.
