Itinerary Brief

Days 1-2

San Jose

  • Meet & greet at the international airport, transfer to your hotel.
  • Overnight in San Jose & self guided tour of the city’s highlights.
  • Go over details of your program, Q&A session with local guide.

San Jose may not be at the top of your travel bucket list but you will more than likely have to stay there for at least one night when traveling in Costa Rica. As the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose acts as the logistical center to reach the rest of the country. But do not despair…San Jose, referred to as Chepe by the locals, is a cosmopolitan city that combines the coffee culture of a North American city with the liveliness of a Central American capital. Make the most of your time in Costa Rica’s capital city, enjoying a fresh cup of coffee, soaking up the atmosphere of the local salsa bars or taking time to explore San Jose’s rich history and architecture.

Days 2-4

Rafting in/out Pacuare Lodge

  • 2 nights at the world renowned Pacuare Lodge.
  • Enjoy thrilling whitewater rafting experience in Class II-III rapids
  • Optional zip line tour through the lodge’s surrounding treetops.

The Pacuare Lodge is regarded as one of the world’s top eco-lodges! Situated on the banks of the Pacuare River, which is one of the top five rafting rivers in the world, your journey to the lodge is one you’ll never forget as you gear up and climb into your raft. Tackling and enjoying the thrill of Class II-III rapids you’ll arrive at the entrance of the Pacuare Lodge. If you’re not feeling up to the adventure of arriving by whitewater rafting you can arrive to the lodge by 4x4. Once at the lodge you can relax in the hammocks, swim in the river, visit a nearby Cabecar Indian village to discover local shaman traditions or, take an optional zip line tour through the forest canopy.

Days 4-7

Puerto Viejo & the Caribe

  • 3 nights in Puerto Viejo on Costa Rica’s stunning Caribbean Coast.
  • Explore the underwater world of the Cahuita Coral Reef.
  • Spot wildlife on a nature hike through the Cahuita National Park.

Settle into the Caribbean way of life near the laidback beach town of Puerto Viejo. You’ll have beautiful sunsets, sunshine-filled days, tropical beaches and crystal clear waters to look forward to as well as delicious Caribbean food. During your stay you’ll visit the Cahuita National Marine and Nature Park to go snorkeling through its transparent waters alongside multi-colored marine life and corals. You’ll also hike through the Park’s dense tropical rainforest where you’ll be able to spot a diverse selection of wildlife. Spend the rest of your time relaxing on heavenly Caribbean beaches or taking an optional tour to a Sloth Rescue Center or to meet members of the indigenous Afro-Caribbean BriBri tribe. Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast is one of the most multi-cultural regions of the country. A large majority of Costa Rica’s Caribbean population are of Jamaican descent and there are also a number of indigenous people such as the Bri Bri living along the coast. Although less developed in comparison to the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, the nature and wildlife is just as spectacular and offers a unique cultural experience within Costa Rica.
