Rincon de la Vieja is a relatively hidden gem and off the beaten path destination in Costa Rica’s Northern region of Guanacaste. It is currently open and easily accessible from Liberia International Airport (LIR) or if coming from other destinations in our country, such as the Arenal volcano are, the Monteverde Cloud Forest or the Pacific beaches and town of Tamarindo.
Rincon de la Vieja has come to be known as Costa Rica’s mini-Yellowstone National Park. The volcanic region of Rincon de la Vieja offers beautiful nature with one million-year-old volcano, hot springs and the magical dry-topical forest that surrounds it, for peace and serenity. Imagine yourself walking surrounded by pure nature, butterflies, monkeys and iguanas. And as you explore further into the dry-tropical forest you’ll find hidden waterfalls, lively bubbling mud pots, hot springs and hissing holes in the ground, reminding you in no uncertain terms that you are walking in a volcanic land.
But Rincon also offers a wide variety of adventure activities such as horse-riding through the forest and to hidden waterfalls, rappelling, rock climbing, river tubing, jungle hikes and exploring the dry tropical forest canopy by zip-line.
Whatever you choose to do, we highly recommend to head out into the dry tropical forest for some good relaxing in the natural volcanic mud pools and hot springs where you can make the most of the natural sauna and massages. This is the natural spa in Costa Rica!
Come and enjoy Costa Rica; we are ready when you are!
